Lake Chatyr-Kul, translated as “Heavenly Lake,” reflects the blue sky in its waters. Located in the Naryn region, between At-Bashy and Torugart-Too, it is the highest mountain lake in the Tian Shan range, situated at an elevation of 3,500 meters above sea level. In terms of size, it ranks third after Issyk-Kul and Son-Kul. The lake is fed by 17 rivers, with only one being permanent.

The average temperature here is -5 degrees Celsius, reaching as low as -50 degrees Celsius in winter. The water freezes entirely to a depth of 16 meters. In summer, the air temperature can rise to 24 degrees Celsius, but swimming is not possible as the water temperature reaches a maximum of 10 degrees Celsius.

The lake itself does not have fish, but thousands of migratory birds periodically stop there. Due to the climate and high altitude, there are no trees, but there are many medicinal herbs and hot springs in the area.

The local areas belong to the Karatal-Zhapuruk Reserve, and visiting it requires permission from the border service. This is how endangered species such as snow leopards, mountain goats, and red marmots are protected.
