Zerenda is a lake in the Akmola region, on the shores of which the eponymous village is located. There are numerous hills with beautiful names surrounding it – Observational, Cherry, Raspberry, Strekach, Smolnaya. There are also many huge boulders and entire compositions made of stones. Many of them also have names: Mushroom Rock, African Mask, Shark’s Mouth, Swallow Nests.

Archaeologists claim that it was in these places around 457 million years ago that the Zerenda batholith was formed. These are huge stone masses that extend deep into the earth and cover hundreds of square kilometers. They were once molten magma, then solidified, and as a result of soil erosion, they appeared on the surface.

Lake Zerenda has a tectonic origin – it appeared as a result of the movement of the earth’s crust. Its area is about 12 square kilometers, and the water level depends on rainfall. In summer, you can relax and swim here. Sandy beaches, beautiful hills, and blue sky – a magnificent landscape for rest and relaxation of body and soul!

It is believed that the name of the lake originated from the word “zeren” – which is what wild goats were called, who used to gather here for watering.
