The Tash-Hauli Palace was built by the decree of Allakuli Khan. The construction of this palace took a whole 8 years, although the Khan hoped that this structure could be erected in 2 years. Nevertheless, many master builders were dissatisfied, and many heads, both literally and figuratively, were lost during this project.
At the beginning of the palace construction, the harem and the Khan’s chambers were built first. Then, on the eastern side, the mehmonkhona, where delegations and guests were received, was constructed. On the western side, the arzonkhona, where court sessions were held, appeared.
The entire Tash-Hauli Palace is penetrated by a complex labyrinth of poorly lit corridors. The most luxurious and beautifully decorated room was the Khan’s chambers. The other four rooms were intended for his wives.
