The Tamgaly-Tas tract is an incredible combination of sheer cliffs reaching heights of up to 60 meters and art left here over different epochs. The rocks are adorned with over a thousand petroglyphs, many of which date back to the XIV-XVI centuries. Among the most significant images are representations of Buddha Shakyamuni, Buddha of Infinite Light Amitabha, and Bodhisattva of Infinite Compassion Arya Avalokiteshvara. These images are associated with the well-known mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum,” which carries profound sacred meaning.
On the rock panels, you can also see depictions of various animals such as bulls, camels, horses, and goats, as well as hunting scenes. In addition to ancient drawings, this place features carved Buddhist mantras and ancient Turkic runic inscriptions dating back to the VIII-IX centuries, associated with the Polovtsians (Cumans).
