The “Dashti Jum” State Nature Reserve, located in Tajikistan, is a true natural treasure. Established in 1983, it covers an area of 9.7 thousand hectares. It is located just 40 kilometers from the city of Kulob and 240 kilometers from the capital of the republic, Dushanbe.
The reserve was created with one important goal – to preserve the last full and viable population of the markhor, also known as the screw-horned goat, in Central Asia. The Central Asian mouflon also inhabits this area.
The landscapes of this area are incredibly diverse: from picturesque wooded hills to rocky areas. The reserve is famous for its unique flora and fauna, as well as captivating landscapes. However, the real gem of this region is the encounter with mountain markhors, whose population and habitat range in the world are extremely limited.
