Semenovskoe Gorge is located 49 km from the city of Cholpon-Ata on the northern shore of Issyk-Kul. Its length is approximately 30 km, with a paved road of 15 km.
The area received its name from the Russian scientist-geographer P.P. Semenov-Tian-Shansky. The Ak-Suu river flows along the bottom of the gorge, and there is also a small lake that appeared as a result of an earthquake. According to legend, the water in this lake is sacred, and one can cleanse themselves of sins by diving into it three times. The water temperature in the lake is just 5 degrees Celsius.
Fir trees and other flora grow on the slopes of the gorge. The picturesque slopes on the left side are particularly beautiful – dense thickets of wild rose, sea buckthorn, currant, and honeysuckle grow there. In the summer, yurts are set up where you can taste the national cuisine and relax.
At the northeast border of the gorge, there are ancient tombs dating back to the 5th-3rd centuries BC. There is also Brezhnev’s dacha, where he visited only once.
The tourist company DWC will be happy to take you to Semenovsky Gorge.
