The city of Sauran is one of the oldest in the territory of the Turkestan Region.

Its name appears in writings as far back as the 10th century, and even then it was considered a fairly developed center in every sense of the word. The Sauran Fortress was one of the outstanding features. It was a well-organized city with defensive structures and a guild of craftsmen.

There were also underground water pipelines extending a total of 110 km, which was quite rare at that time.

Currently, archaeological excavations are being carried out here, and restoration work is being undertaken with the assistance of the Government of Kazakhstan. The ruins of the city are definitely worth visiting to see how our ancestors lived.
