Sarez Lake, located in the Pamirs of Tajikistan, is one of the most picturesque bodies of water in the country.

Interestingly, it formed in a somewhat unusual manner. It all began on February 6, 1911, when a magnitude 7 earthquake occurred. The Murgab River was blocked by a huge landslide, which created a natural dam with a height of 567 meters. The consequences of this earthquake were recorded at the Pulkovo seismic station near St. Petersburg, which is thousands of kilometers away from the epicenter.

In the same year, the newly formed basin began to fill with water, flooding the village of Sarez, which subsequently gave its name to the lake. Today, Sarez Lake attracts tourists with its beauty and unique origin.
DWC Tour Company invites you to enjoy this natural wonder.
