The tourist company DWC invites you to an amazing natural journey to the lake, which is a true gem of the Tien Shan – Petrov Glacier Lake. It is the largest glacier-fed lake in this region in terms of area and water volume and serves as the main source of water supply for the high-altitude Kumtor gold mine.
One of the remarkable features of this lake is its constant change. The size of the lake has significantly increased due to the melting of the glacier, increasing its depth from 20 to 70 meters and expanding its area to 430 hectares. Today, the lake contains about 65 million cubic meters of water, and it seems that its area and volume are constantly growing.
The lake is fed by the sources of the Naryn and Syr Darya rivers, which are supplied with meltwater from the powerful Petrov Glacier. This glacier is located on the northwest slope of the Ak-Shirak ice massif and permafrost in the Central Tien Shan, in the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan, not far from Bishkek. The lake is located in the permafrost zone at an altitude of 3600 to 4200 meters above sea level, and the annual temperature range here varies from -38 to +23 degrees Celsius.
The tourist company DWC will be happy to organize this unforgettable adventure for you.
