The Palace of Nurullabay, towering in Dishan Kala of Khiva, stands as a majestic witness to history. Founded in 1912 on the land previously owned by the wealthy Khivan merchant Nurullabay, the palace was built by the order of Muhammad Rahim Khan II for his successor, the future Khan Asfandiyar. This act of generosity stipulated that the place where the palace stands would forever bear the name of the benefactor.
With over 100 rooms inside, the palace includes a court hall, the Khan’s apartments, a small mosque, rooms for servants, and the harem. The palace complex is surrounded by a high wall more than 650 meters long, adorned with traditional Khivan towers.
Special attention should be paid to the Khan’s reception hall, consisting of seven rooms. The throne hall is particularly impressive, designed in the style of Russian Art Nouveau, with exquisite furniture, Venetian mirrors, and luxurious bronze chandeliers gifted by the Russian Tsar Nicholas II.
Today, following the completion of extensive restoration work, the palace shines with its magnificence just as it did a hundred years ago. Would you like to visit here? We organize jeep tours from Bishkek to any part of Uzbekistan.
