The mausoleum of the great poet and founder of classical Tajik poetry, Abu-Abdullo Rudaki, known worldwide, was erected in 1958. This historical aspect is associated with the fact that there is still no complete biographical information about the great poet, and the location of his burial remains a mystery.
It is only known that Rudaki lived in the late 9th to early 10th centuries during the Samanid era. He spent the last days of his life in poverty and passed away in 941 in his native village of Panjrud, near the city of Pendjikent. Records have survived indicating that the poet was blind.
