The famous Sary-Chelek Lake is just one of the gems in this area. Surrounded by the majestic nature of the mountains, several small lakes, including Lake Kara-Kamysh, are located here. It’s best to venture here via jeep tours from Bishkek.

According to legend, Lake Kara-Kamysh was created by a large landslide that blocked the Kara-Suu River. Its name can be translated as “black reed,” although the lake’s name sometimes coincides with the name of the river that originated this reservoir — Kara-Suu or Kara-Suu-Bashikel. This lake is 1.5 kilometers long and 500 meters wide.

Lake Kara-Kamysh not only captivates with its beauty but also offers various opportunities for outdoor activities. You can go boating, on a catamaran, or even paddleboarding, enjoying vibrant moments on the water.

Lake Kara-Kamysh is also an ideal place for overnight stays, especially if you plan to hike to Sary-Chelek Lake via the Kotorma Pass. Here, surrounded by mountains, you can enjoy the tranquility and harmony of nature.
