The San-Tash burial complex is located on the banks of the Tiup River, near the border with Kazakhstan, at an altitude of almost 2,000 meters above sea level. It is also 400 km east of Bishkek and 50 km from Issyk-Kul Lake. There are many Scythian tombs in the surrounding area that have been resting here since the 6th to 1st century BC. The pile of stones still holds a mystery. There is a belief that it is connected with the legend of Tamerlane, who used the stones to keep count of the number of fallen warriors.

The height of the mound is 5 meters, and the diameter is 56 meters. There are also more than 250 other mounds made of earth and stones around it.

The ruins of a prehistoric caravanserai are also recorded here. It was presumably built in the 10th-12th centuries AD. It is a square enclosure 48 meters long, with a tower and a 35*8 meter residential building inside.
