The Kolsai Lakes were formed as a result of landslides blocking the riverbeds, effectively acting as artificial dams. They are located in the Almaty region of Kazakhstan, not far from the border with Kyrgyzstan. These are three high-mountain lakes connected by the Kolsai River: Lower Kolsai (Saty), Middle Kolsai (Mynzhylgy), and Upper Kolsai.

The water in the lakes is crystal clear, reflecting coniferous forests and thickets of sea buckthorn and barberry. The water almost always has a azure color. The beauty of the landscape is complemented by the Alatau Mountains with their snowy peaks.

Accommodation can be found in Saty, the nearest settlement. Fishing and swimming are possible in the lakes, but the water is very cold even in summer. The depth of the reservoirs reaches 80 meters. The road between the lakes is not difficult, suitable even for novice tourists. The company DWC organizes jeep tours not only throughout Kyrgyzstan but also through Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.
