The Kalmak-Ashuu Pass is located in the Naryn region, at an altitude of 3447 meters. The road is only open from June to October. At other times, the movement here is stopped due to the amount of snow. This is despite the fact that the name of the pass translates to “Open Pass”.
The pass is known for the road that runs through it to the northern shore of Lake Son-Kul, the second largest lake in Kyrgyzstan. The area around the lake is also beautiful, and it is especially loved by cyclists from other countries. They are interested in overcoming the slopes and descents in order to return here again.
The ascent is quite difficult, as the road goes uphill. But these inconveniences are fully compensated by the hills and dunes that constantly alternate with each other.
