Lake Kaindy is located 280 km from Almaty, in the Kungey Alatau gorge. Its second name is the Sunken Forest. The landscape here is truly fantastic – giant spruces rise straight from the turquoise surface of the lake. The name Kaindy comes from the birch grove located 5 km from the lake.

Once, a small stream flowed through the gorge, surrounded by centuries-old spruces. After an earthquake in 1910, a landslide occurred, blocking the river’s flow. The gorge filled with water, engulfing the huge spruces. The water rose by 25 meters, but the trees stood firm. Now the lake is much shallower, but the trees still hold on tightly with their roots. The trunks, devoid of crowns, stretch towards the sun, creating fantastic landscapes.

For those wishing to dive to the bottom, the assistance of divers may be required. This requires preparation and readiness to dive into water with a temperature not exceeding 6 degrees Celsius.

DWC company organizes jeep tours not only throughout Kyrgyzstan but also in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.
