Lake Iskanderkul is one of the most recognizable natural landmarks in Tajikistan. Getting to this famous natural attraction is quite easy – just 130 kilometers from Dushanbe.

From a scientific point of view, Iskanderkul is a lake formed as a result of a landslide of mountain rocks. It is located at an altitude of 2195 meters above sea level, has a maximum depth of 72 meters, and covers an area of 3.4 square kilometers. The lake is suitable for swimming, and in the summer, many tourists enjoy relaxing on its rocky beaches. However, it is worth noting that the water temperature drops sharply to around +10°C at a depth of about 10 meters from the shore.
