Lake, more precisely, the Inylchek Glacier, is the largest and fastest in Kyrgyzstan. It has two branches – North and South Inylchek. Located to the east of Lake Issyk-Kul, in the Khan Tengri massif. This is the highest and most inaccessible point of the Tien Shan mountain range.
In terms of size, Inylchek ranks second in the CIS after the Fedchenko Glacier in the Pamirs. Its length is almost 60 km, and the area is 567.2 sq. km. The glacier begins near Khan Tengri and stretches for 43 km, with an ice thickness of 150-200 meters. Not all parts of the glacier are accessible to tourists – it is situated between powerful ridges, and the valley’s entrance is blocked by Lake Merzbacher.
