The village of Gissar, the administrative center of the Gissar district in Tajikistan, is located in the heart of the Gissar Valley, just 18 kilometers west of the capital, Dushanbe. To the north of Gissar runs a major highway connecting Dushanbe and Termez, linking Tajikistan with Uzbekistan.
To the west of Gissar flows the Khanaka River (or Khanakinka), running from north to south. This region is also known for its contribution to the country’s infrastructure, notably through the Great Gissar Canal, built in 1942, which is one of the largest in the republic.
Just seven kilometers south of the village of Gissar lies the historical Gissar Fortress, an important architectural monument and a testament to Tajikistan’s rich history. This fortress, over three millennia old, is one of the significant architectural artifacts of Central Asia.
