The Chon-Kyzyl-Suu Gorge, or “Big Red Water,” is one of the most beautiful places in the south of Issyk-Kul. The river of the same name received its name because of the color of the water – the red sand particles from the red mountain rocks tint it red. The river originates from the glaciers of the Terskey Alatoo and acquires a red color in the lowlands. The gorge is located 50 km from the village of Pokrovka and includes the coast in the area of the Kara-Bulun peninsula.

Several species of waterfowl winter on the peninsula – the climate there is favorable, partly due to the presence of several thermal springs. At an altitude of 2,000 meters in the gorge, there are wild boars, deer, marmots, pheasants, snow leopards, and griffons. Plant species include strawberries, sea buckthorn, barberries, and mushrooms. For thrill-seekers, we recommend visiting the hot hydrogen sulfide springs and ice waterfalls, where you can alternate between swimming in hot and cold water. You can also organize trekking, hiking, and horseback riding here.

Our company can organize jeep tours to the most interesting places in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.
