Today, hundreds of pilgrims and tourists from all over the world head to Nurata to visit the famous cult complex, the center of which is a sacred spring or “chashma” known throughout Asia. Legend has it that once a meteorite fell, emitting light, and where it landed, this spring emerged, with water possessing healing properties. This explains the name of this place – “Nur,” which translates from Arabic as “Light.”

The sacred spring is located near the ruins of the fortress of Nur, which, it is said, was founded by Alexander the Great in the 4th century BCE. These ruins still hold great interest for researchers as they are one of the oldest monuments in Uzbekistan.

We invite you to exciting jeep tours in Bishkek with the DWC travel company, where you can explore the historical heritage of Nurata and enjoy the beauty of the sacred spring.
