Adventure jeep tours organized by the tourist company in Bishkek offer unique opportunities for travelers who want to explore the captivating historical sites of Uzbekistan. One of the remarkable landmarks included in the itineraries is the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which has an incredible history of development.
Over 136 years ago, in the mid-19th century, a modest church dedicated to Saint Pantaleon stood on the territory of the hospital cemetery. However, over time, a decision was made to expand the church, and by 1878, the successful construction of the new cathedral was completed. The history of the cathedral was not without temporary difficulties—during the period from 1933 to 1945, the cathedral was temporarily closed and used as a hospital. But after the end of World War II, the cathedral reopened its doors, received a new name—the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and was appointed as the main Orthodox cathedral in Tashkent.
The impressive exterior of the Assumption Cathedral inspires visitors as soon as they enter its territory—the triple arch with a golden dome attracts attention and impresses with its grandeur.
