Тourist company Jeep Tours Bishkek offers thrilling adventures for travelers who want to explore the historical sites of Uzbekistan. One of such unique complexes is Bolo-Hauz in Bukhara, the only surviving building from the monumental Registan to this day.
The history of the complex dates back to the 17th century when the ruler of Bukhara, Emir Shahmurad, decided to demonstrate his equality with ordinary people and initiated the construction of a public mosque where he intended to attend Friday prayers alongside regular believers.
Bolo-Hauz translates as “Children’s reservoir.” In Central Asia, there have always been issues with water, so artificial reservoirs were specially built to provide the population with drinking water. Bolo-Hauz served as one of such water sources, but in the 20th century, it was drained due to sanitation and hygiene measures to prevent the spread of diseases.
The Bolo-Hauz mosque impresses with its exquisite and luxurious appearance, built for the ruler’s special prayers. The mosque is adorned with 20 wooden columns with intricate carvings, supporting the ceiling.
