Besh-Aral State Reserve is located in the southwest of the Chatkal Valley. It is surrounded by the Pskem, Chandala, Talas, and Chatkal mountain ranges, with elevations ranging from 1100 to 4000 meters.
The reserve covers an area of 1120 square meters. You can reach it via the Kara-Buura and Chaptama passes. The Chatkal River flows through the reserve, and it is home to over 1500 plant species, some of which are listed in the Red Book.
Around 50 species of mammals and 150 species of birds have found their home in the reserve. These include wild boars, hares, wolves, foxes, ibexes, martens, hedgehogs, and ground squirrels. The Menzbier’s marmot, a red-listed species, occupies a special place here.
