Lake Ala-Kul is a high-mountain glacial lake located in the south of Issyk-Kul, not far from the city of Karakol. It is a lake without an outlet and translates literally as ‘motley’ or ‘variegated lake,’ which perfectly describes its appearance. The vivid turquoise water and snow that persists here even in summer contrast with the green grass and flowers of various shades.

The lake sits at an altitude of 3,500 meters above sea level. Despite its challenging accessibility, it is a favorite destination among tourists. The road to the lake passes through the Karakol Gorge or the Altyn-Arashan Gorge.

Access to this area is possible only via specially equipped vehicles – the road is not suitable for regular cars. For hiking enthusiasts, part of the route can be covered on foot.
